honestly good on sarah janet maas for writing a character (Aelin) who is fated to die to save the entire world and spends most of her life working for or enslaved to other people (Arobynn, the King of Adarlan, Maeve) or in service of that fate, never once having her own life or goals or destiny and pairing her off with another character (Rowan) who loves her completely, and solely exists in the narrative to support her and think that she is wonderful and worthy regardless of her fate, and who refuses to accept that fate for her and who loves her enough that he plays a role in ultimately keeping her alive and allowing her to have a life for the first time.
Sarah paired a character who existed to die to save the world with a character who would refuse to let her sacrifice herself without trying to survive. Rowan doesn't give up on Aelin ever, not even at the very end, and it's exactly what someone who exists to save others deserves and needs.
